Ice skating
This is such a classic date idea! I absolutely love ice skating, even though it always takes me forever to get the confidence to leave the wall or let go of my husband. Bonus points if it’s an outdoor rink with Christmas decorations and twinkly lights!

Christmas light viewing
This can be done so many different ways. Depending on where you live, this may mean you drive around town and see all of the lights on houses that have decorated. This can also mean that you pay to walk or drive through a park that has been professionally decorated. We do a bit of both but have recently found that an art museum called Newfield’s has the best light displays ever! They also offer s’mores and hot drinks so I’m all in!

Holiday market
Shopping for others is one of the best parts of the holiday season, and sharing it with someone you love can make it even more fun! We recently added the Carmel, IN Christkindlmarkt to our holiday traditions. It is a German market that has some of the most unique gifts you can find. They also have an ice skating rink, so if you’re local you can knock out two of these date ideas in one night!

Decorate gingerbread houses
My husband and I usually do this by ourselves each year, but it can also be done with a group of family or friends. You can host a dinner party and have a decorating contest to make things a bit more interesting!

Holiday movie night
Netflix your favorite holiday movies at home with snacks or head to a theater to see the newest addition to the holiday movie genre. You can sometimes find a free showing of an old Christmas movie, depending on the theaters near you, if money is tight but you still want a night out!

See a ballet
My husband and I have seen the Nutcracker around Christmas and it instantly put us in the holiday spirit! It’s also a fun opportunity to dress up and look fancy! Again, depending on where you live, you may be able to find a really affordable option near you if a ballet school is putting it on rather than professional, paid dancers.

See a play
Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a showing of a Christmas play… I will always be partial to A Christmas Carol! My mom and I have a tradition of going to Beef and Boards here in Indy to see whatever Christmas show they are putting on. This year, it was Elf the Musical which was sooo cute! If you go to a dinner theater like we do, you will also get some yummy food! This is another excuse to dress up and feel fancy!

This may not seem very festive, but it is what you make of it! Wear ugly Christmas sweaters, request your favorite holiday songs, anything to get you in the festive spirit while bowling! My husband LOVES bowling and is always looking for an excuse to go! This can also be something to do on New Year’s Eve!

I hope you guys will try some of these out! I’m a sucker for a good holiday tradition so the more the merrier when it comes to local events!
