There’s nothing better than a good red lipstick during the holiday season. I spend most of December repainting my nails red and applying red lipstick anytime I go out for pretty much anything. Add a cat eye with some black eyeliner and you’re out the door looking glam with very little effort! I tend to prefer more cool-toned reds with blue undertones rather than orange. BONUS – they make your teeth look really white!

Over the years I have tried many lipstick formulations and the real test comes when you try the reds. Red lipstick can be MESSY… it can feather around the edges, transfer to everything you drink or eat, and get all over your teeth if you’re not careful. The best way to avoid these issues is to start with a good formula and luckily for all of us, good does not equal expensive when it comes to makeup! Almost all of the products I have included in this list are affordable and should be readily available in a drugstore or Ulta!

Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in “Missy and Fierce”
Wet n Wild has perfected the liquid lipstick, in my opinion. And at a fabulous price point! I own almost every shade from their original range and I love every single one. It is matte without being too drying and just feels so comfortable on the lips. This shade is a bright fire engine red which is what I think of as the perfect Christmas lip.

NYX Matte Lip Cream in “Monte Carlo”
The NYX matte lip creams are a good alternative for those of you looking for a satin-like finish. This formulation is not drying at all because it is an opaque cream rather than liquid making it very comfortable. It is pretty long-lasting and gives a beautiful apple red color without too much transfer!

NYX Intense Butter Gloss in “Apple Crisp”
NYX butter glosses are perfect for those of you that love a glossy look and want a more subtle red lip. These can be layered on top of other products such as liquid lipstick to give it more coverage, but these glosses give quite a bit of pigment on their own. If these had too much color, they could be messy though since they are so glossy. BONUS, they all smell like dessert!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in shade “10”
This lippie is a regular solid lipstick, which is a change of pace for me since I usually wear liquid lips. This shade is red but has a bit of a berry color to it, giving it a little something extra and making it more wearable during other times of the year. It also has a bit of a sheen to it. Even though there is a bit of transfer (HELLO, this isn’t a liquid lip!) it is still a great option for those of you that don’t like the feeling of a liquid lipstick.

Trestique Matte Color Lip Crayon in “Tuscan Wine”
Ok, so this one is a bit more expensive and is available online through a couple of retailers including Sephora. But it is so good. As mentioned, I’m definitely more of a liquid lip girl, but this crayon is pretty long-lasting and is a very nice red wine color. It is double-ended because it includes a red-tinted lip balm on the end. The cap is magnetic which makes it mess free and perfect for girls on the go who want to throw it in their purse without a worry.

I hope this helps you find the perfect red lip for you so you can look effortlessly glam and fabulous this holiday season! Shop all products below!
