My skin has always been dry, even throughout my teen years. I had the occasional breakout (which I still get at 26 – usually hormonal), but for the most part my skin has always been so dry that I haven’t had enough oil to cause many issues. But dry skin can lead to other issues…

Some may say that I’m lucky to not have to struggle with oily skin and acne, and don’t get me wrong, I am happy to have avoided that for the most part. But it has made me worry a lot about aging and wrinkles. Typically, as you get older your skin produces less oil and that can lead to loss of elasticity, wrinkles and other skin issues that come with aging. My baseline oil production isn’t great, which means that over time my skin is going to gradually produce even less oil.

Worrying has led me to doing a lot of research and reading advice from as many dermatologists and skin professionals as possible. I was expecting to see recommendations for high-end, expensive products with price tags that could send me into a panic attack.

Much to my surprise, many of them led me to the drugstore brand CeraVe. CeraVe contains ceramides, which is very important for those with dry skin. Ceramides are naturally found in the skin, but those with dry skin have less of these, making it harder for the skin to absorb moisture even when it is applied in other lotions and moisturizers. The ceramides in CeraVe make it possible for the rest of the wonderful ingredients and hydration to absorb into the skin while it also restores the skin’s natural barrier. So, a couple CeraVe products made their way into my regular skincare routine, which I’m going to detail below for you!

Hydrating mask – I usually pull from my stash of samples and masks I receive in my FabFitFun box (I’m currently loving sheet masks because they don’t need washed off and I can actually feel the products soaking into my skin afterwards)
